Dorsimar

From the forgotten war against the dark beast, the goddess Emorricha brought her Dathyr’s to the aid of the material plane for the battle of creation.  That war lasted for decades, and in that time a new Planar Scion came to be; the Dorsimar.  Following the Dathyr’s example and orders of their matron Emorricha, the Dorsimaran people have fought against those who would bring Morksfar to this plane.

Dorsimar believe in a balance and freedom to choose their destinies for the surface races, letting them do what they wish and not interfering unless the ancient threat is involved.  For the most part, Dorsimars on the surface are much like other planar scions, trying to make their way among other humanoids, though they seem to usually follow some code that even they aren’t sure of.

Skyborn Dorsimar found on the surface usually are on a mission, though some are spies trying to blend in and keep information flowing to the sky cities to better help protect the realms.

If you want to play a character who’s held to a code, or a protector of others, or even a seeker of knowledge, you should play a Dorsimar.

You Might…

  • Work to protect others, even if you don’t like them
  • Enjoy technology or magical arts, even if you don’t use it yourself
  • Be very organized in everything you do

Others Probably…

  • View you as militant or obsessively organized
  • See you as otherworldly and alien
  • Always ask you how something works or believe you have advanced technology or magics.⁹

Physical Description

Dorsimars stand taller than men, almost taller than elves, skinnier than men and thicker than elves, and very pale.  They have Black or dark hair, and very rarely have white hair.  Dorsimars are half Durok, children of Emorricha, and half of every other race; therefore they have eye-colors of every race across Vorthira, though brilliant and even gem-like.  Dorsimars have raven-feathered wings that allow them to fly, though when dealing with surface races, the Dorsimars can disguise their wings as a cloak or coat.  Most Dorsimar wear black or dark cloths and all carry a weapon of some kind.

Society

All Dorsimars can use magyk if they choose to; many do not, though there are many Mages.  Dorsimars are often seen as cold, even cruel, but they choose to use their skills to protect the other races at all costs.  It is rare to see a Dorsimar on the surface smile or even feast; often they are sullen and quiet, sneaking around like thieves or assassins.  In Ríochtspéir, or the Sky Kingdom, Dorsimars are more relaxed; albeit still have their guard up.  These people always have a weapon on them.  Their culture is almost militaristic, every member of their race following strict protocols.  Few Dorsimars make friends with those on the surface, but when they do, they are friends for life, and will come in their times of need at all costs. They are the most technologically advanced race, having powerful computers, AI, and energy weapons.  They even have flying vehicles that can travel from city to city.

Alignment and Religion

While the Dorsimar hail from a neutral outsider species, Dorsimar can range any alignment.  Typically, Skyborn are Lawful, living in their militaristic society, and generally neutral, preferring to stay out of surface conflicts.  Surface Dorsimar range every alignment with no real preferences.

All Dorsimar worship Emorricha, goddess of fate.  They consider her their great mother, and follow her will when it manifests.  Besides Emorricha, the dorsimar typically worship neutral or good deities, though surfacers living in Vlakenshe worship Celior as simply part of the culture.  Dorsimar almost never worship evil deities, and never worship the dark beast, unless they’ve had such a mental break and survive.

The Surfaceborn Dorsimar use names from whatever culture they happen to have been born in, however Skyborn use naming conventions that are from a lost age, from the era of the shadow wars.
